Elton Group—Jul 2021

Sub Zero Showroom

Sub-Zero & Wolf Showroom Surry Hills, Sydney

A high-end fit-out that perfectly matches its heritage and diversity, the Sub-Zero & Wolf showroom complements the gritty and industrial character of the old inner-city suburb and via detailing and materiality, provides the perfect context for showcasing the brand, appliances and accessories.

The floorplate has been expertly divided into 2 distinct spaces; using Elton Group’s popular and warm Eveneer Prefinished Fango Groove in the open showroom space and the dark, rich and evocative Eveneer Prefinished Anthracite Oak Groove to create a private, luxurious demonstration kitchen and entertaining space beyond. The classically detailed timber veneered joinery conceals and reveals the beautiful appliances alongside stone, reeded glass and brass.

Arcos

Named for its celebration of arches and referencing the original Queenslander and Spanish mission style of its predecessor, in ‘Arcos’ House arches are king, upon entry transforming into curves, which sweep 3 dimensionally to reveal an awe-inspiring interior.

In the kitchen, the rounded island echoes the curves of the nearby stair, encouraging circulation and social interaction and striking a sophisticated balance between grand scale and a warm and tactile nature.

The palette is intentionally earthy and natural, rendered concrete providing a soft, neutral base for the meticulously detailed and seamless Evenex Deep Grain Oak joinery throughout.

Master Joiner

Matt Appino from MSA Prestige Woodcraft worked with Felicity King of Studio Barbara on the Highgate Penthouse apartment; a project which heroed Elton Group's Eveneer Mink on almost every wall surface as well as in panelling and joinery. The veneer detailing is immaculate, from the resolution of the continuous curves at the thresholds of spaces to the superbly matching the timber grain on cabinetry and mastering the subtle scallops of the bathroom joinery.

Matt has been using Eveneer for ‘as long as I can remember’ and has seen ‘many trends, come and go’. A true master hidden behind humility, Matt is passionate about the hands-on making of furniture, joinery and panelling in timber veneers, but he is also passionate about sharing his knowledge and is often invited to the studios of practices with which he works to share his knowledge on veneers, matching and detailing.
