Elton Group is committed to supporting new and emerging designers and congratulate Ally Marrotte on being shortlisted as IDEA2021 Emerging Designer.
Very few graduate designers have this experience, but the Rodanthe House project opportunity landed in her lap with an open client brief- “I want something I haven’t seen before”, perfectly matched Ally’s passion for pushing boundaries and problem-solving. The response; conceptual, holistic, and gutsy, building upon the bones and details of the period home.
With little practical experience, though Ally’s diligence in research, working closely with product experts and suppliers and leaving no detail undone, she learned an enormous amount on the way. Knowing nothing of timber veneers beforehand, after a few ‘surprises’, she realised an understanding of types of veneers and polishes in the specification of timber veneer is the only way to really ‘know what you are getting in the result’.
I pretty much only use Elton Group products, for quality of veneer, finish, and patterns. Eveneer where possible and Evenex as a more affordable surface with a beautiful touch and contemporary finish. Detailed to maximise the materials’ potential, Persian Walnut and Burnished Oak are heroes in Rodanthe House.
