The home’s calm, neutral interior is defined by Eveneer Raw ALPI Xilo 2-Flamed White used extensively across joinery to lend warmth, grain and depth. The crown pattern detailed with expertise and consideration, adds rhythm and texture to the space as a subtle hero in the tone-on-tone material palette.

Tonal layers throughout the project allow for consistency, while the sweeping, cathedral-like grain brings organic restraint. Lawless & Meyerson shows that the cut and grain of a single timber veneer, can hold an entire scheme together.

What makes a crown

Crown cut veneer—also known as flamed, flat cut or cathedral—is produced by slicing parallel to the length of a halved log, allowing the blade to sweep across the growth rings. The result is a distinctive pattern of soaring, organic figures that add dimension, character and distinction to joinery and panelling. 

For ALPI's sustainable recomposed veneers, this crown is made possible by pressing the veneer leaves in a curved mould and re-slicing, giving the expressive movement of a natural log while providing the consistency and the freedom to design the direction and spacing of the crowns for every bespoke installation.
